hiiii pals! comin at ya with something a little different today. instead of a life update I’m going to be talking allll about self care, my growth with self love, and how I like to treat myself!
I don’t know about y’all but I love this whole self care movement that’s happened within the last year. It’s really made me take a step back and focus on the question “how am I doing?”. I went through a period for years of not ever focusing on myself. I mean, I did focus on myself, just not in the right ways. I would focus on negative parts of myself, you’re too fat, your skin, hair, etc isn’t good enough. That’s just scratching the surface. I convinced myself that every ounce of me wasn’t good enough for this earth. And I ignored Gods presence in my life because I didn’t understand how I could be worthy of His love when I was as shameful as I was. Life was rough 5 years ago y’all.
But, life went on. I slowly learned that every single human is flawed and no one is perfect. I got to the point where I understood the power of the cross and what it actually means for us. When you break free from the guilt of your sin, life is so much better! When you can finally look in the mirror and say you are a CHILD of God and we are perfect in His image. The self hate is driven out. Now this revelation was not brought on by the self care movement, I might add. This was just purely my relationship with Jesus.
Anyways, that being said, when you love yourself a little bit more you listen to your body’s cues. You WANT to take care of yourself. Our bodies are our vessels to be disciples on earth. If we don’t take care of our bodies, we’re not properly serving Him. If I go go go and don’t stop to care for myself, I end up being out of commission for days. Whereas if I had just taken the time to say “no” to one obligation and let my body rest I would find myself more productive. Anyone else??
My favorite ways to practice self care are either on Saturday mornings or Sunday nights. Self care Saturday mornings I like to start my morning slow with coffee and the Bible. I put my phone away, I pray over what I’m reading and just absorb the word. After that usually consists of cleaning of some sort, I love to clean! It’s therapeutic to me, so I’ll tidy up and clean because nothing is more refreshing than a clean and tidy home.
Self care Sunday nights look a little bit different. Instead of finding ways to fuel myself, I find ways to let myself decompress. For starters, I’ll shower and take off every ounce of makeup. Then, I’ll put on comfy pjs and this lavender neck pillow. You can heat this pillow up in the microwave if you prefer, but I find that it is just as nice not warmed! I love to try different face masks. Even if they don’t do anything, the process itself relaxes me! I also love to use my rose quartz roller with a serum on my face. Not only is it relaxing but it’s actually quite beneficial (I may write later about the many benefits of lymphatic drainage and why you need to jump on board with that. Buuuut this post is long enough 😉
some of my other favorite treat to self items are lavender essential oil, under eye masks, this skin clearing mask (perfect for breakouts!!), this devo (one of my favorites!), and these pjs. Truly the best. If you know you know.
Well that’s all, friends!! Hope y’all enjoyed this post! Let me know if you want to see more like this. As always, have a wonderful day/ night!!
